The therapist does a good job of rolling with it; the therapist is metaphorically nudging him over. T: Yeah, cool. Good. Very nice. Validating Confusion Socially rewarding confusion is an odd response. But it is meant to socially reinforce clinically relevant movement, which is a key process in ACT. The collection of verbal relations we call “the mind” evolved to problem solve. But our personal history is not a problem to solve. Our experiences are not problems to solve. Our history is to be known.

Maybe I’ve got a shovel, a better shovel, a bigger shovel, a steam shovel, a goldplated shovel. But in that situation, digging may not be what is necessary.
